This  last one is something of a surprise - normally these things say "This is a reprint" - this does not. Is this a hint of a new iteration of the rules? Or is it just an oversight, having left off the reprint status...


So, clearly I have to do a rewrite of my Faction to make them a Chinese Faction. I'll do a rewrite of the characters and come back to this... This kind of political upheaval in Japan will clearly lead to some expatriates that will fight against the power grab and try to restore the Emperor to the throne.

I'll repost the Michiko stuff later...

Tannhäuser Tuesday - The Bat Man Pt 1

It's Batman week on your favorite Tannhäuser blogs. Miah and I are both doing our takes on the Dark Knight Detective. Miah did some beautiful work on the Bruce Wayne card and tokens shown here, but he wanted to go a different direction with the character, so he's making his own. Why two versions? Why not?

Seriously, there have been many versions of Batman. My interpretation is based on the idea that The Bat Man does not kill. That is what separates him from the evil in the world. The Bat Man's  Special Object Token is Code Against Killing.

I chose this figure of Batman because it is period looking and he is just plain bad-ass. There are many Batman Heroclix figures, so there may be one that you like better. This is the Batman Dark Knight #223 Unique Le WWLA Con Exclusive Heroclix. Troll and Toad via Amazon has it for less than 4 bucks shipped. He was rebased.

Tannhäuser Tuesday - News and BPRD Field Agent Two

HOT NEWS - New official Fantasy Flight Releases keep on coming. The new releases - Wolf reissued and the Hoax single figure pack should be in stores NOW. I will do a news report next week if I can get my hands on those figure. The Daedalus Map pack should be for sale by next week, and the Asteros the Minotaur figure pack is listed as being on the truck - so that should be in stores within a few weeks.

Part 1

Here is the first of a series of updated customs to reflect the Revised Rules. Thanks to Per Larsson (drapulv on the boards) for the suggestions and for poking me to get this done.

I have tackled Krisztov Moeller first, because he is the leader. I will try to get one a week until the faction is done. I am still using the older template, but will consider changing to the new one if there is strong demand for it. All the Tokens and Character Sheets are the same.

Tannhäuser Tuesday - U-Chronicle Postponed

Greetings fearless U-Chronicle readers. As you can see from this post, this is not your full and complete U-Chronicle feature. As some of you may know, I participated in NaNoWriMo this year, writing the first draft of my science fiction novel, Dreamweavers, in 30 days. Finishing yesterday. Unfortunately, that killed any time that I had. Between family, job, and writing 1700 words a day, I was pretty tapped out. But fear not, you will receive a full U-Chronicle this month.

Just not today. I will post a full article soon, hopefully by next Tuesday. In the meantime, enjoy this abbreviated feature.

Welcome back! We have a new monthly Tannhäuser feature here at Savage Tales. We call it the U-Chronicle and we intend to bring you features and news each month.

Top Story

As most of you are aware, Fantasy Flight Games has purchased the entire Tannhäuser property, including all work done to date and several upcoming releases. When these are to be released, only FFG knows for sure. They have announced 2nd edition rules for the game, with a $5 rule book available in addition to a free PDF of the revised rules on FFGs site. All existing components will be fully compatible.

The most recent news on the FFG web site gives us a few clues into their plans. According to a "State of the Game" report filed September 4, 2009, "Tannhäuser is the newest addition to the FFG family. We are going to be doing these State of the Games periodically for Tannhäuser to keep you better updated than times previous." They also promise us "the elusive Wolf (who will be for sale alongside Daedalus this fall)."


And best of all is this bit - "FFG wants to see the full potential of this game realized. We want this world to be a living breathing thing that we have the privilege of revealing. Currently we are in the process of transition. Take On You is sending us all of the assets for the game, and we will be going over them to see how far along all of the already announced projects are, and to make sure all upcoming projects are as close to perfect as can be. We will be showcasing previews of the upcoming Daedalus map expansion over the coming weeks, and there are a lot of products planned to follow it. We are holding off announcing them until the schedule is much more concrete, which means the time between announcement and when the product is in your hands is kept to a minimum. No more waiting, no more delays. We want this world to come alive, and stagnation is not an option."

I really hope that they mean it.

Additional details are revealed in another press announcement from August 31st. "The second map is set in the outdoor Outpost of Gévaudan, and also elevates your play experience. This map brings the deadly capabilities of the sniper to bear. An all new icon for you to exploit, the sniper post allows you to target models not on your path!" This map is the one that FFG had previously announced a contest for designing the pathfindings. I am unaware of any announcement of results.

Tannhäuser Custom Department

My first custom faction, Moeller's Hermetics is complete and available in a pdf booklet that you can download. A smaller file (8 mb) that littlewars created for quicker downloading is here. Or you you can download the BIG file (150 mb) here. To play the faction, download the book, cut out the character sheets and tokens and order the following figures:

With the release of Operation Novgorod it is now necessary to track the Game Turns in order to use Irina Kravchenko's "Martyr" Special Item. You can do this with a spare die or you can use this month's play aid, a Turn Tracker.

You move the counter down the track at the start of each new turn. The track allows everyone to keep tabs on the amount of VPs the Matriarchy may gain in the event of Irina's demise. It is scaled to fit below her Character Sheet.

The Operation Novgorod expansion also features the Scenario "Last Of An Ancient Breed" in which you must keep track of Game Turns. On the reverse side is a general Turn Tracker for use in these kind of Scenarios.

CUSTOM CHARACTERS - PART I : CARDS

A while back I made some blank cards for use in creating custom characters. As a bonus this month, I have made revamped cards for both Hero and Trooper characters. Click on the images below for high res versions.

Included below are two versions of the skill icons for the the Character Cards. Click on the image for a high res version.

The cards above are handy if you have an image without a background.

In the example below, I used a nice Bruce Timm marker rendering of "The Master Of Men", The Spider. I copied and pasted the illustration onto the Character Card and trimmed away the white area. I then cropped the image to fit the background. This took about ten minutes to make:

You can download a file that contains all the jpegs above, as well as transparent png versions, at the end of this column.

The png files are handy if you have an image with a background. In the example below, I've taken a Joe DeVito painting of "The Man Of Bronze" and pasted the transparent Character Card on top of it. I then repositioned the image to fit in the "window". This took about five minutes to make:
