Tannhäuser Tuesday - Edison Revealed
.
.
So, as it turns out, Thomas Edison's son can kick some ass. James Curtis Edison is probably the last official Union Hero and as Miah pointed out in his preview, Edison is a monster and a master of flexibility.
When playing with James Curtis Edison on your team you may play with the following configurations of soldiers:
3 Heroes, 2 Troopers
3 Heroes, 1 Trooper (each turn choose 1 of the following - get +5 to initiative or +1 Command Point)
2 Heroes, 4 Troopers
2 Heroes, 3 Troopers (each turn choose 1 of the following - get +5 to initiative or +1 Command Point)
There are also some a number of tokens with rules for the use of his Menlo gun.

Combat Pack
Ilirium Ignighter - This shoots a ball of energy that after the initial attack does additional damage the next time that character is activated.
Gibson Shells - You choose a circle within 6 circles of Edison and all characters on that circle or within 2 circles of it take 2 automatic damage.
Tri-Lens Goggles - These allow James to re-roll dice in addition to ignoring smoke effects.
Stamina Pack
Biotech Residue - dial up Edison or an adjacent character by two rows.
BG-450 - All wounds to Edison can be negated if he rolls any Natural 10s on his shock roll.
Cyprus Cylinders - target rolls 2 less dice on shock roll.
Command Pack
Ilirium Walljack - a mine that you can leave on any circle on your path. Later, you can set off the mine at any time, even interrupting a character's activation. Follows grenade rules.
IL-273 Repressor Field - Overwatch characters can't attack you.
America's Favorite Son - If there is a friendly Trooper on your path, they can take a hit aimed at Edison.

There is still one more Reich Hero to come and then one more
I don't know what my Tannhäuser output will be, but there are other shiny object that will catch my eye and I will continue to provide game related content on this site in addition to Pulp and book reviews.

I am looking forward to Frankenstahl and I will report back then!

Tannhäuser - RIP...
.
.
I have been madly crafting awesome stuff to screen in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con and missed this news - just saw it on Miah's site...
FFG has announced that Tannhäuser is going on hiatus following the announced releases of the Union hero Edison, the Reich hero Frankenstahl, and the 2nd novel, "Operation: Night Eagle."
This is not a shock as I don't see the game on tables everywhere being played, but I am please they are going ahead with these last items. There really is a huge amount of stuff to play with for the game and I will enjoy it (as with Heroscape) for years to come.
Here are the final items to be released:

Tannhäuser Tuesday - Shogunate Map Expansion
.
. Fantasy Flight Games has announced the release of Operation Hinansho, a campaign supplement for Tannhäuser.
From the press release:
"A new campaign expansion, Operation: Hinansho transports players to the Far East where the great powers seek answers to the mysteries of the unexplained crash of a Union plane and the sudden abandonment of a Japanese research facility on the island of Hokkaido."
Additionally, "Operation: Hinansho comes with a double-sided map..." "New rules, circle types, and tokens."
The press release mentions Locked Door circles and Sniper circles. Covert tokens are new as are Volatile rubble tokens. The latter explode if a character passes through. I am assuming that the backs look like ordinary rubble so that the characters are taking a chance every time they pass through rubble.
The press release also says that "Operation: Hinansho also gives players all the tokens they need to play the Shogunate Faction independently in any scenario and on any map in your Tannhäuser collection." So all the flags, objectives, etc are included.
"New scenarios give you many exciting ways to pit these allied forces against each other, including optional rules for fielding larger teams on multiple maps." That sounds good to me!
I am pleased with the level of support FFG continues to show for this eclectic game. We now have four full official factions and maps with four entrances, so four player games are on. If you add in my two factions, you could double up the maps and play a three on three game.

2011 Hugo Award Nominations and Other Blog News
.
.
Now that the 2011 Hugo Award nominations are out, I will be spending my free time evaluating the 81 nominees in 16 catagories. As a supporting member of the 2011 World Science Fiction Convention - Renovation - I am entitled to vote on this year's awards and to put in nominations for the 2012 Hugo Awards. This is my first time participating in the Hugos and I want to give all the nominees a fair shake.
Given the quantity of reading that will be required for this, I will be delaying Tannhäuser work to read as many of the stories and novels as I can before the July 31st deadline.
The main reason that I decided to shell out the $50 to be a Supporting Member of WorldCon was that I wanted to be involved in the Hugo Awards and not just read about them. On one of the podcasts I listen to - I believe it was Mur Lafferty's I Should Be Writing (but it might have been Adventures in SciFi Publishing) it was mentioned that if you join WorldCon as a supporting member, you get a nominee packet. Well, this year the packet I received has ebooks of all the fiction nominees and the graphic novels, too. The John W. Campbell Award for best new writer is also given out at Worldcon and novels by those writers are in the packet, too.
So I now have a lot of reading to do on my new Asus Transformer tablet.
That is a lot of stuff - worth well over the $50 dollar buy in. It is not to late to get in on this yourself. Visit the Hugo Awards site for all the details.
Maybe I'll go to Texas for the 2013 convention itself...
I will be posting reports on the Nominees as I read them. First up - the Short Story category...
I will also likely be going to San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July and I am going to Gen Con in August. Keep a look out for reports from both conventions.

Tannhäuser Friday - FFG Teases Us
Today, FFG posted a recap of what they have released for Tannhäuser in the past few months and ended it with this teaser:
"With a new year comes new possibilities, and with an immersive game like Tannhäuser, you can expect many exciting things to appear over the course of 2011. Stay alert, because the war is far from over..."
I'm looking forward to seeing what they have come up with and if they will release the other products that TOY had in development...

Tannhäuser Thursday - Daedalus Revealed
This month's Previews catalog had the above ad along with an ad for the previously seen Asteros single figure box. Hopefully this means Asteros and Daedalus will be out by January.

Tannhäuser Tuesday - Wednesday Edition
Asteros is to be an Epic Hero. It will be interesting to see what rules they used and why they chose to not maintain the Legendary keyword.
Here are some pix from the Daedalus preview I posted nearly two years ago...
Here's hoping this is actually out soon...

Tannhäuser Tuesday - Doktor Moeller Updated
MOELLER'S HERMETICS
Part 1
Here is the first of a series of updated customs to reflect the Revised Rules. Thanks to Per Larsson (drapulv on the boards) for the suggestions and for poking me to get this done.
I have tackled Krisztov Moeller first, because he is the leader. I will try to get one a week until the faction is done. I am still using the older template, but will consider changing to the new one if there is strong demand for it. All the Tokens and Character Sheets are the same.
Updated 7.18.2010 - Thanks, Plageman for the notes...
